Walter Wasner

Cheektowaga Middle School Mathematics, Science

Walter Wasner earned his BS in Elementary and Special Education from Daemen College, and his MS from the University at Buffalo, gaining certification as a Reading Specialist. After teaching for a year in Illinois, he came home to Buffalo and was hired by the Cheektowaga Central School District in 1996, where he’s been teaching grade 5 ever since. Having taught all of the core subjects while grade 5 was part of the elementary setting, the one constant throughout his career has been the teaching of Mathematics. For the past few years, he has taught Science as well and ran the Science Club. Mr. Wasner has enjoyed being a part of the Buffalo Math Collaborative with Dr. Kara Imm the last several years, as well as working with teachers in a neighboring district last year as part of an AIM-TRU (Analyzing Instruction in Mathematics using the Teaching for Robust Understanding Framework) group. When not working, Mr. Wasner enjoys spending time doing things with his family, and keeping active doing almost anything outside. Running, kayaking, frisbee golf, and skiing are some of his favorites. He is also a passionate Buffalo Sabres fan. Mr. Wasner sees himself as a lifelong learner who believes you can always get better, regardless of where you are currently, at almost anything. As a New York State Master Teacher, Mr. Wasner is excited to learn alongside others with a passion for Mathematics and Science and engage in collegial discussions, all with the end goal of better serving his students and their families.
