City Honors School Physics and Life Sciences

Todd Richards earned his BS in Nutrition with a minor in Biology from the University at Buffalo, and his MS in Secondary Education from Niagara University. My pathway to education was not a straight path as I hopped majors several times during my undergrad years. I started off in Mechanical Engineering and then looked into Pharmacy as well as Exercise Science and Athletic Training before deciding it was time to finish up and move beyond the university life. I worked for several years as a Pharmacy Technician and store manager for Eckerd Drug before going back to school to earn my Masters in Education. It was the best decision I have ever made professionally. I am now doing something that I love, helping students realize their potential. I currently am teaching Regents Physics as year one of the two year IB Physics curriculum. I also have one 7th grade Life Sciences class this year. My years of “wandering” through academia at the undergrad level left me with a significant number of undergrad credit hours. Enough so that I was able to be certified in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Health, and of course General Science. As such, my teaching assignments tend to change with the landscape of our student population. In addition to my teaching assignments, I am the Science Research Program Coordinator here at City Honors. The Program is a 4-year student internship program where our students work in research labs with research professionals at Roswell Park, Hauptman Woodward, and our most recent addition, the Jacobs School of Medicine at the University of Buffalo. I also, as of this most recent school year, have signed on as the faculty supervisor for our newly formed Environmental Club here at City Honors. I am excited for the opportunities that lay ahead as being a part of the Master Teacher Program and look forward to the peer collaboration that it offers.
