Stephen Johnson
Amherst Middle School MathStephen Johnson earned his BA in Adolescent Education with a concentration in mathematics in 2005 and MSEd in Literacy Education in 2007 from SUNY Oswego. While attending Oswego, he was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education, and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He also worked as a Graduate Resident Mentor for Residence Life and Housing and was a founding member of the American Red Cross Club. Mr. Johnson has been teaching for fifteen years, serving for nine years at Amherst Middle school teaching Math 7 and Pre-Algebra. In school, he strives to model lifelong learning and enjoys implementing new instructional technology. Mr. Johnson is a member of the District Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Team, District Safety Team, Building Technology Committee, and Crisis Support Team. He is an ENL Computing Coding & Robotics Summer Program Facilitator and a New Teacher Mentor. He is also a member of the Buffalo Math Collaborative and an active participant in the Analyzing Instruction in Mathematics Using the Teaching for Robust Understanding Framework PLT. Mr. Johnson frequently seeks opportunities to serve the broader community, volunteering for organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Bald for Bucks, and as a SKYWARN Spotter for the National Weather Service. As a NYS Master Teacher, he looks forward to collaborating with energetic STEM educators, increasing opportunities to work with pre-service teachers, and strengthening the community of problem solvers created along with his students.
