Stanley Skotnicki

Stan Skotnicki earned his BA in Earth Science Education and an MS in Education Technology from Buffalo State. As a PolarTREC educator in 2016, Mr. Skotnicki spent five weeks near Cherskiy, Russia studying how vegetation growth impacts the permafrost layer and blogging about the research process. During the previous summer he was part of a research team doing permafrost investigations above the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Prior to teaching, Mr. Skotnicki worked as a Design Draftsman for SIHI Pumps, Inc., an engineering firm. In the classroom for 11 years, Mr. Skotnicki teaches Earth Science and Physical Science at Cheektowaga Central Middle School, serves as the Middle School Science Curriculum leader, coordinates the morning announcement program, and is advising the National Junior Science Honor Society. Mr. Skotnicki is an active member of the Science Teachers Association of NYS, the National Earth Science Teachers Association, and the American Geophysical Union. He will be co-presenting a poster session about developing a successful PolarTREC expedition at AGU’s fall conference. As a NYS Master Teacher, Mr. Skotnicki is looking forward to participating in the upcoming mini-course on the Arctic with Dr. Stephen Vermette from Buffalo State and joining the Outdoor Science Professional Learning Team.
