Rae Zimmerman
East Seneca Middle School ScienceRae Zimmerman earned her BA in Political Science from the University at Buffalo, BS in Elementary Education at SUNY College at Buffalo, and Master of Education as a Reading Specialist from the University at Buffalo. She is in her 26th year of teaching grade 6 in the West Seneca Central School District. She is a member of West Seneca’s District Leadership Committee, WS East Middle School’s Shared Decision-Making Team, the Science Department Chair for grades 6-8, and the team manager for the Destination Imagination Club- a friendly competitive community program that encourages students to work as a team using their imagination to solve STEAM challenges. Her professional memberships include both the Science Teacher Association of NYS (STANYS) and the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA). In May of 2019, Mrs. Zimmerman received the Outstanding Educator of Western, NY award, presented by STANYS in recognition of individuals who, while teaching in the k-8 classroom, demonstrate excellence in science teaching and science education advocacy. Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Zimmerman enjoys exploring her love of photography/Cricut crafting, and most especially spending time with friends and family. Mrs. Zimmerman is looking forward to working with other NYS Master Teachers passionate about the quality integration of Citizen Science in the classroom, ultimately empowering students with the skills, strategies, and desire to make a difference in their lives, communities and beyond.
