Pamela Patterson

Holland High School Science

Pamela Patterson earned her BS in biotechnology from Rochester Institute of Technology and her master’s degree in molecular biology and science teaching from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry. She earned her National Board Certification in Adolescent and Young Adulthood Science in 2002 and has successfully maintained it to date. Mrs. Patterson began teaching in 1997 and is currently teaching Buffalo State Environmental Science, Regents Living Environment and Applied Science elective at Holland High School. Her focus for upperclassmen is to incorporate citizen science as a tool to motivate and inspire them to pursue science and maintain scientific literacy throughout their lives. She works with several community partners to accomplish this goal. In all classes, she focuses on best practices for science pedagogy to maximize individual student learning. Mrs. Patterson advises the Environmental Science Club and the Envirothon Team at Holland High School. She has a passion for the outdoors and recently earned the “46er” title with her daughter. She led two trips to the Adirondacks with Holland's Environmental Science Club to climb mountains, canoe, and camp. She enjoys mountain biking with her husband in her spare time. She is a member of NSTA and STANYS and has presented at the STANYS mini conference. She participated in EPA's “Shipboard Science” last summer and is working to infuse knowledge gained into her professional and personal life. Mrs. Patterson is looking forward to collaborating with the extensive network of Master Teachers and sharing her passion for science content and pedagogy.
