Amherst Middle School Science

Nancy Claxton received her B. S. degree in Dietetics and Nutrition in 1988 from Buffalo State, and her M.S. Degree in Nutrition Science in 1994 at the University at Buffalo. She was employed for 8 years as a Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian at Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, Gastrointestinal Division. In addition, she practiced private nutrition and wellness for 10 years. Nancy found educating children and their families in the healthcare field inspiring, so she headed back to school to earn a NYS teacher certification through Daemen College in 2000.  She has been employed at Amherst Middle School as a seventh grade science teacher for 18 years. Nancy has provided numerous opportunities for young science minds through a classroom pet animal program named “Zoo Crew.” She is a member of the Science Teachers Association of New York and has participated as a coach for Science Olympiad and as a judge for the Western New York Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Nancy looks forward to the challenges and rewards of collaborating with other Master Teachers, developing and enriching science learning, and sharing best practices. She strongly believes infusing STEM into daily curriculum is crucial in preparing future students as problem-solvers in our ever-changing world.
