Fredonia High School Mathematics, Science

Mimi Joint earned both her Bachelors (2011) and Masters Degrees (2012) in Mathematics Education from SUNY Fredonia, and taught there as an Adjunct Mathematics Professor while completing her graduate degree. She has been teaching Geometry, Algebra 2, and JCC Pre-Calculus at Brocton Middle/High school since 2012. After taking a sabbatical and taking courses at the University of Buffalo in 2021 and becoming dual certified in Earth Science, she has started teaching high school Astronomy and Meteorology courses. Outside of the classroom she has been the Student Council Advisor since 2013 which involves planning annual Homecoming events, running Thanksgiving and Christmas food and gift drives for local families and students, and hosting free after prom events for juniors and seniors. She also volunteers in the school's newly created gardening club where students learn about starting seeds indoors and caring for young plants. They also host a free plant swap every May where they distribute student grown plants to the community. At home she has two young children and she considers herself a homesteader, enjoying gardening, baking, sewing, needle crafts. She also recently moved to a small hobby farm where she planted a permaculture inspired orchard and has begun keeping and boarding horses. As an active adult learner, she is looking forward to meeting other NYS Master Teachers who will inspire her by sharing ideas and best practices for working with students both inside and outside the classroom.
