Michael Milliman
Smallwood Drive Elementary ElementaryMichael Milliman earned his BS in Elementary Education (N-6) and his BA in English from SUNY Geneseo. After being hired to teach 5th grade at Smallwood Drive Elementary in the Amherst Central School District, Mr.Milliman pursued his Master’s in English Literature from the University of Buffalo. In the classroom now for 26 years, all of it at 5th grade, Mr.Milliman is a passionate advocate for instruction. He is the Teacher Coordinator of the New Teacher Orientation program in the Amherst district, as well as serving as a Mentor and a Literacy Coach during his time in Amherst. He truly believes there is no such thing as a perfect lesson, but there is such a thing as a perfect post-conference. For the last 6 years, Mr.Milliman has spearheaded the 5th Grade Smallwood Memorial Garden renewal. As a NYS Master Teacher, Mr.Milliman looks forward to continuing his work with the Buffalo Math Collaborative to grow diverse methodologies in math instruction and practice. Dedicated to conversations about pedagogy, Mr.Milliman is interested in the Preservice Teachers PLT and their dialogs with incoming teaching candidates. He is excited about using the Thwaites Glacier sessions to develop real-world connections with climate change in his own practice. Mr.Milliman is very excited about the upcoming mini-course on Learning Loss to build a more robust classroom environment.
