Michael Delmont
Frontier Central High School ScienceMike Delmont completed his BS in Biology from Canisius College, MSEd in Science Education from Buffalo State College, MS in Genetics, Genomics, and Bioinformatics from the University at Buffalo, and is currently working on his EdD at UB, where he is researching how to increase rigor in the science classroom in order to support students in obtaining higher levels of scientific literacy. Prior to teaching, Mike planned on pursuing a career in research and worked in a variety of labs doing molecular biology research. Recipient of the STANYS Fellows New Teacher Award in 2021, Mike has been teaching for four years at Frontier Central High School. He currently teaches AP Biology and AP Environmental Science, while also being the advisor of the school’s Ecology Club and leading teams of students for NASA’s HUNCH and AREN Programs. Outside of Frontier, Mike has also been an Adjunct Professor in the Canisius College Biology Department for three years and serves as an AP Reader for the AP Biology Exam. Two of Mike’s biggest hobbies are board games and cooking, and he regularly tries to work the latter into his classes; students are always excited when they find out they’re doing another “food lab,” as they call them. As a new NYS Master Teacher, Mike is most looking forward to collaborating with and learning from his peers so that he can continue to improve his classes.
