Melissa Hugar is a graduate of Buffalo State. In 2003, she completed the honors program, earning a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. She received her master’s degree in Educational Computing in 2007. Melissa’s professional career began in 2003 at Kenmore East High School where she taught math academic intervention services. Since 2004, she has been teaching at Starpoint High School where her current courses include Geometry and Algebra II/Trigonometry. She is co-advisor to the Mathematics Honor Society, serves on the Student of the Month Committee, and is a member of the Secondary Math Council in Niagara County. Melissa has recently been asked to join Starpoint’s CDEP committee where she will aid in developing a comprehensive district education plan. As a New York State Master Teacher, Melissa is looking forward to joining the Vertical Math Professional Learning Team. She is excited to be a part of the Master Teacher Program and eager to learn new teaching strategies from a dynamic group of professionals. She appreciates the support and encouragement she has received from her husband, two children, family, and friends.
