Cleveland Hill Middle School Elementary

Melissa Bunce earned her BS and MS in Elementary Education from SUNY Buffalo State, and Special Education Certification from Canisius College. In the classroom for 21 years, Mrs. Bunce is a 6th grade Special Education Teacher at Cleveland Hill Middle School, where she co-teaches math, science, ELA, and social studies. Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Bunce serves as the Mentor Program Facilitator for new teachers and co-advises the WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) Program, a transition program for students entering middle school. As a former dancer, Mrs. Bunce also choreographs and performs in a staff holiday dance every December for the middle school students. Mrs. Bunce strives to continually grow in her knowledge and pedagogy heeding the words of John Cotton Dana, librarian, and museum director: “Who dares to teach must never cease to learn.” This truth is what led Mrs. Bunce to the Math and Science Landscapes courses at Buffalo State, and eventually to apply to become a Master Teacher. In her free time, Mrs. Bunce enjoys running, reading, hiking, and vacationing with her family. As a NYS Master Teacher, Mrs. Bunce is looking forward to collaborating with teachers from area schools, improving her own practices, and supporting others in their growth as educators.
