Mary Plumb earned her BS in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame in 1996 and upon graduation, received her commission as an officer in the United States Air Force.  She was responsible for airfield operations and air traffic control facilities at Travis AFB, CA, then managed federal grants and construction projects for the civilian Sacramento County Airport System until 2002. Earning her Master of Arts in Education, with an emphasis on Curriculum and Instruction, from Chapman University, Ms. Plumb entered the teaching profession and eventually returned home to Western NY.  She taught middle school mathematics for most of her teaching career, shifting to Regents Geometry before starting the middle school STEM program at Falconer Central School. For over two decades, she has worked to foster curiosity and problem solving, while developing student agency and facilitating connections between ideas and disciplines. As a Master Teacher, she co-led the Growth Mindset PLT, was a contributing member of Buffalo Math Teacher Circles, and devoted many years to supporting work around the TRU Framework. Ms. Plumb earned her Advanced Graduate Certificate in School Leadership from Stony Brook University, and now serves as Director of Technology and STEM at Falconer. She co-facilitates the Chautauqua Math Collaborative with Dr. Kara Imm, partners with Martz-Kohl Observatory and Jamestown Community College to offer an annual regional Space STEM Camp for Western NY and Northwestern PA, and strives to support whole-child wellness and development district-wide, through innovative initiatives and community partnerships.
