Mary Newman
Amherst Middle School MathematicsMary Newman is a sixth-grade mathematics teacher at Amherst Middle School in the Amherst Central School District. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education from Buffalo State University and a Master of Science in Differentiated Instruction from Canisius University, and holds New York State certifications in Childhood Education (Grades 1â6), Mathematics (Grades 7â12), and Gifted Education (Kâ12). Teaching since 2009, Mary also serves as a union representative, working collaboratively with stakeholders to support equitable policies and high-quality teaching and learning. As a New York State Master Teacher, she is excited to collaborate with educators to strengthen equitable, student-centered mathematics instruction and promote learning experiences that build student confidence and math identity. Outside the classroom, Mary enjoys traveling and exploring new places, from Disney to London and China, which continue to spark her curiosity and love of learning.
