Mary Dileas

Mary Dileas earned her B.S. in Mathematics at SUNY University at Buffalo, her M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies at SUNY Buffalo State, focusing on math literacy, and National Board Certification in Adolescent Mathematics.  Her career spans 23 years of teaching all four years of Regents Mathematics in various environments from rural to urban, including public and private schools.  She currently teaches Geometry and Algebra 2 at Emerson School of Hospitality in the Buffalo Public School District.  Inspired by the movie Hidden Figures, Ms. Dileas completed the Computer Science for High School Training at Buffalo State College, and introduced coding in her building.  For over 10 years, Ms. Dileas has enjoyed mentoring pre-service teachers and working on Buffalo’s curriculum committee; both activities include developing strategies for learning and using technology in the classroom.  She is captivated by how learning happens and how teaching facilitates Martin Gardner’s “aha!” moment, particularly in ways that reduce math anxiety and enhance students’ academic confidence.   Ms. Dileas is honored to be recognized in her field as a NYS Master Teacher.  Mary is looking forward to shared growth and professional development in the areas of unique teaching strategies and writing for professional journals.
