Makenzie Schrader earned her BS in Biology from SUNY Cortland and her MSEd in Biology Education from Canisius College. While attending SUNY Cortland, Makenzie served as the lead research assistant in a Behavioral Neuroscience Laboratory. She presented her research on The Effects of Environment Enrichment on Nicotine Primed Ethanol Consumption on Male and Female Rats, and Environmental Enrichment Reduces Stress-Induced Relapse Over Protracted Withdrawal Periods in Ethanol Taking Rats at multiple research summits including the SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference. Ms. Schrader began her career as a substitute teacher where her love of the academic side of science originated. Ms. Schrader has been a full-time teacher for the last 4 years where she provides instruction on Living Environment and Anatomy and Physiology for dual enrollment credit with Niagara University while working at the International Preparatory School. As an active member of the school community, Ms. Schrader collaborates with the Best Self after school program and creates lab activities for students to participate in during STEM Saturday’s, Saturday Academy Program. Outside of school, Ms. Schrader enjoys hiking the Adirondack High Peaks, walking with her dog, and practicing yoga. As a NYS Master Teacher, Ms. Schrader looks forward to the collaborative community and discussing best practices within the classroom.
