Madeleine Callanan earned her bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in Education Studies and Anthropology from Skidmore College, and a degree in Urban Education, summa cum laude, from Buffalo State University. A proud graduate of Tapestry Charter High School, she has taught at Tapestry Charter School since 2019, beginning as a Kindergarten Teaching Partner before transitioning to the 4th grade team in 2021. She currently serves as the general education teacher in the Integrated Co-Teaching classroom. In addition to her classroom responsibilities, Madeleine is the 4th grade representative on her school’s Math Committee. She was the leader of Tapestry’s Green Energy Club, in which students learned about Buffalo Solar Jars—solar-powered lanterns invented by Madeleine and her family. Outside of school, Madeleine is passionate about canine communication and psychology. She enjoys working with her own Therapy Dogs International (TDI)-certified therapy dog, Sketch, as well as her rescue dog, Usagi. Madeleine has published in Literacy Today and has presented at the New York State Reading Association conference. As a Master Teacher, she looks forward to joining a network of like-minded teachers passionate about STEM and education. She is particularly interested in the “Mathematics of Gerrymandering” minicourse and the “Common Language” PLT.
