City Honors School Earth Science

Kurt Minervino earned his BS in earth sciences, BS in earth science education, and a MSEd in science education from the SUNY College at Buffalo and also holds a C.A.S. in Teacher Leadership and Doctorate from Niagara University. Minervino’s dissertation study was titled: An Investigation of Gender Differential Item Functioning in New York State Science Regents Exams and the Effects of Geographic Location on Educational Success. Other research interests include: generalizability theory, item response theory, translation differential item functioning, differentiation, and pedagogical practices. 

Dr. Minervino has been a classroom teacher for eleven years and currently teaches physical and earth sciences at City Honors School. At City Honors Minervino serves as the faculty advisor for the mock trial and pre law clubs. Minervino is also a senior lecturer at Niagara University teaching physical geology and solar system astronomy. Minervino also serves as a program facilitator for Every Person Influences Children (EPIC) of Buffalo on Internet & Social Media Safety.

He is an active member of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). During his spare time he enjoys traveling, visiting museums, reading, boating, and hiking. As a NYS Master Teacher, Kurt looks forward to working with other S.T.E.M. teachers in the Western New York region to continue to grow and learn as an educator.
