Justin Mullen earned his B.A. in Physics while minoring in Mathematics, History and Education, as well as a M.Ed. in Physics Education from the University at Buffalo. While studying at UB in the University Scholars Program, Mr. Mullen served as a Resident Advisor for two and a half years. His certifications include Mathematics 5-12, Physics 5-12, and General Science 5-12. Mr. Mullen has been teaching for 13 years, including the last 8 at Cleveland Hill Middle School. He currently teaches 8th grade mathematics, AIS, Regents Algebra, and 6th-8th grade science. Mr. Mullen has served as an advisor for the Team America Rocketry Challenge program, advisor for the Academic Challenge Bowl team, and head coach of Team Cheektowaga Modified Hockey. He has also served on the PBIS Tier 1 committee and mentored several preservice teachers. Outside of school he served as a board member and coach for the Buffalo Stars Hockey Organization for over 15 years. Currently, Mr. Mullen is a Mathematics Curriculum Leader as well as Head Coach of the Boys Modified Basketball team. Mr. Mullen can also be seen participating in the annual faculty dance every December. He lives with his wife and two children, and enjoys listening to the podcast “Star Talk” with Neil deGrasse Tyson while encouraging his children to “keep looking up.” Mr. Mullen was inspired to apply for the Master Teacher Program after attending the Math Landscapes workshops and is looking forward to learning about methods for encouraging positive mathematical mindsets in the classroom.
