Jennifer Lewis
Union East Elementary School ElementaryJennifer has earned both of her degrees from D'Youville college in Buffalo NY. She obtained her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2004, and her Masters of Science in Special Education and Early Childhood Education(grades 1-6) in 2005. As of June 2018, she has been teaching for 13 years, and has taught many grades levels. She is currently teaching 4th grade math and science in the Cheektowaga Central School District at Union East Elementary. Mrs. Lewis is a math curriculum leader in her school, where she holds monthly meetings, and she volunteers at several school activities including; Family Literacy and Game Nights, and New Student Orientations. Mrs. Lewis is a member of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State(AMTNYS), and the National Council of Teacher of Mathematics (NCTM) where she has presented in Washington D.C. in April 2018, and will be presenting in San Diego in April 2109. Jennifer shares her strategies of teaching math in three part forms where students gain a conceptual understanding of concepts through a concrete, pictorial representation, and abstract method. Outside of school Jennifer is Policy Board Member for the Teacher Center of Cheektowaga, and has participated on several curriculum writing teams. In her free time Mrs. Lewis enjoys skiing, cruising, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Lewis is looking forward to learning new practices to incorporate into her classroom and share with colleagues, and participating in a variety of Professional Development opportunities. Mrs. Lewis is passionate about students working in cooperative learning groups and learning from one another.
