James Helms

James Helms earned his BA in Geology and his teaching certification from SUNY Geneseo, and his MS in Educational Technology from Buffalo State College. Mr. Helms has been teaching science for sixteen years. His love for science started when he was a child, but it was in high school when he realized he wanted to become a teacher. Currently at Depew Middle School, Mr. Helms teaches 6th grade science. He is the Grade 6 Chairperson, MS Science Club Advisor, MS Talent Show Advisor, MS Technology Resource Teacher, and is the Treasurer of the Depew Teachers Organization. Mr. Helms is also involved in several school committees. Mr. Helms is a member of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and Science Teachers Association of NYS (STANYS). He is passionate about science in everyday life, and loves passing on that enthusiasm. Mr. Helms has many hobbies, including rock collecting, golfing, woodworking, and beekeeping. As part of the Master Teacher program, he is looking forward to working closely and collaborating with teachers in other districts in order to improve his own teaching.
