Helena Brierton
Ellicottville Central School Earth and Life SciencesHelena Kovacs Brierton earned her BS in Childhood Education from Florida International University, MS in Science Education from Florida State University and National Board Certification in Early Adolescence Science. Helena taught elementary and middle school science classes in Florida for 18 years. Ms. Brierton currently teaches at Ellicottville Central School and has taught varied courses for the past 13 years including Regents Earth Science, Regents Living Environment, 7/8 science and SUPA Earth System Science. Ms. Brierton is an active member of the Ellicottville Teachers Association, National Science Teachers Association, and the Geologic Society of America. Ms. Brierton enjoys learning about new technologies used to better her teaching and for her students to use with labs. She enjoys attending Science workshops across the country and internationally to better her craft and knowledge. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Ms. Brierton has served on various committees including the technology committee, advised various student clubs and grade levels, and has initiated Science expos and fairs at each school she has worked. She volunteers annually to help at various school functions including ski club, middle school dances, makeup crew for the school play and various elementary functions. Outside of school, Ms. Brierton enjoys yoga, art, gardening and travel. As a NYS Master Teacher, Ms. Brierton is looking forward to participating in a variety of workshops to further enhance her teaching. She has joined the Phenomenal Storytelling PLT and the Engineering PLT. Ms. Brierton enjoys sharing ideas and resources with other teachers in her school and within the Master Teacher community.
