Garrett Kensy earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Mercyhurst in 2010. While at Mercyhurst, he lettered in football for 4 years and was named Captain during his final season. Following graduation, he continued his graduate studies at Canisius College earning a Master of Science in Adolescence Education in 2011. Upon Graduation, Garrett served as a Teaching Assistant at Amherst Middle School. In 2012, he started his full-time teaching career at Maryvale Middle School teaching 7th and 8th Grade Math. After one-year, he received a probationary position at Amherst Middle School teaching AIS Math in grades 6 through 8. During this time, he helped streamline the data collection process for school-wide benchmarks using eDoctrina. After 6 years in this role, he moved over to Amherst High School instructing Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Algebra Lab classes. During his first year, he helped recreate the Algebra with Support Curriculum to better engage his students. Outside of the classroom, Garrett coaches football, basketball, and lacrosse at Amherst, and loves spending his free time with his family. Along with his wife and 2 children, Garrett attends Buffalo sporting events, travels, and collects sports memorabilia. When not with his family or in the classroom, he enjoys working various basketball and football camps in the Amherst community. As a NYSMT, Mr. Kensy is looking forward to the relationships that he will make in the professional organization, learning about new ways to get the most out of his students, and pushing himself to become a better educator each and every day.
