Erin Kensy
Union East Elementary School ElementaryErin Kensy earned both her BA in Childhood/Special Education and her MA in Literacy from Canisius College. Erin always knew that teaching was the career path she wanted to pursue, and working with children with special needs was an avenue she looked to explore throughout her undergrad courses. Mrs. Kensy has been teaching within the Cheektowaga Central School District for 10 years, and during this time, she has taught in several different special education settings. Since 2019, Erin has worked at Union East Elementary as the Special Education Teacher within an Integrated Co-Teaching first grade classroom. It is here that Erin challenges, supports, and develops the minds of 6 year olds to share their educational experiences through their own perspectives, while learning from the voices of their classmates. Mrs. Kensy co-teaches and modifies lessons in reading, writing, mathematics, and science. She currently serves on her school's Math, Special Education, and Wellness Committees and is a member of the Buffalo Math Collaborative. This professional group has provided opportunities for Erin and other math teachers to observe, participate in, and discuss pedagogy, strategies, and math landscapes. As a NYS Master Teacher, Erin looks forward to participating in meaningful conversations and groups to continue embracing her growth mindset and deepen her skills as a teacher. She looks forward to learning from other educators in this wonderful profession. When not in the classroom, Erin loves spending time with her family and friends, traveling, country music concerts, and the Buffalo Bills.
