Erika Howard
Union East Elementary MathematicsErika Howard earned her BS in Elementary Education in 2003 and MS in Elementary Education in 2006 both from the State University College at Buffalo. Mrs. Howard has a dual certification in Childhood Education (Grades PreK-6) and Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6). She has been teaching grades K through fourth since 2000. She currently teaches first grade with 90% of her students receiving ENL services. She participates in monthly meetings as part of the English Language Arts Committee. Mrs. Howard has been a member of the ELA, Mathematics and Technology Committees, SST Team Leader, grade level team leader, and an advisor for the Student Council. Prior to applying to the NYS Master Teacher Program, Mrs. Howard participated in the MTP professional learning opportunity focused on mathematics, the Buffalo Math Collaborative and looks forward to continuing to grow as a member of the BMC. When not in the classroom, Mrs. Howard loves spending time with her family and has a passion for marathon running with her most favorite marathon being the Boston Marathon. As a NYS Master teacher, Mrs. Howard is looking forward to working closely with other teachers to foster a supportive environment for the next generation of teachers, attending regional meetings and diving into professional learning teams.
