Amherst High School Physics

Erik Zobel earned his BA in Physics and Secondary Education at SUNY Potsdam and EdM in Education and Technology at the University at Buffalo. Mr. Zobel teaches Honors and General Physics at Amherst High School. During his 19 years in teaching, Mr. Zobel has also coached JV football and continues to coach his daughter’s softball team. Mr. Zobel is a member of the American Association of Physics Teachers and a two-time teacher of the month recipient; he thoroughly enjoys preparing his students how to think as they embrace the challenges of Physics and the opportunities that lie ahead. He has brought the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction unit into class to give his students a practical approach to the content as well as encourage safe habits while in the community. Mr. Zobel has used his love of athletics to add content area knowledge to two published books, The Science of a Slap Shot and The Science of a Spiral. As a Master Teacher, Erik looks forward to learning from and collaborating with the amazing educators in the program and, through the great influence of his 3 daughters, bringing his love of teaching Science to students in the elementary schools. Erik is extremely thankful for the support of his incredible wife Jill, daughters Ella, Annie, and Lucie along with their loving Labrador Bernie.
