Elizabeth Kent

Elizabeth Kent graduated with a BA from the University at Buffalo (UB) in 1990 and with a JD and certificate in State and Local Government Law from the UB Law School in 1993.  She also studied Geography at the doctoral level at UB and is currently working toward ESL certification through Niagara University.
Ms. Kent has been teaching in the Buffalo Public Schools system for 13 years and at Lafayette High for seven years.  Ms. Kent currently teaches Algebra 2 but has taught all levels of mathematics from grade 7 through pre-calculus.  She is a member of NCTM, AMTNYS, and is admitted to the NYS Bar.
Ms. Kent is an avid gardener and brings her love of gardening into the classroom.  She created lessons that teach algebraic and geometric concepts through the planning and building of garden plots at Lafayette High.  This past year, she and her students planted and harvested 18 beds of herbs and vegetables.  At the end of each season, her students bring home bags of vegetables to their families, many of whom are recent immigrants to the Buffalo area.  Ms. Kent is also active in Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo, the Buffalo Public Schools Garden Committee and Lafayette’s building committee. 
Ms. Kent is an adjunct faculty member in the Business Department at Buffalo State.
She has an extensive home garden and her friends and family agree that she makes a “mean jelly and pickles.”
Having worked in male dominated industries, Ms. Kent’s goal is to increase the participation of minorities and females in STEM studies and their representation in STEM professions.
