Mr. Hawkins earned his BS in Technology Education from SUNY Oswego and MA in Industrial Education from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Mr. Hawkins began his teaching career at Columbus North High School in Columbus, Indiana where he taught graphic communications, Architecture, Computer Aided Drawing, Tech Prep Math and Tech Prep Physics. While there, Mr. Hawkins presented at Purdue University about the Tech Prep program and did an internship with Paris Bingham Architects. Since 1993 Mr. Hawkins has been a public school Technology Teacher in the Sweet Home Central School District. In that time Mr. Hawkins has taught every level from 6th grade to graduate level as well as teacher training in Digital Electronics for Project Lead the Way and is now also supervising student teachers for the Technology Education Department of SUNY Oswego. Mr. Hawkins is in his 29th year of teaching. Mr. Hawkins is currently teaching electronics, computer programming and Introduction to Technology. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Hawkins serves as an Advisor to the Women in Technology Club and Ski Club. In the past, Mr. Hawkins also advised a hiking club and a backpacking club. Mr. Hawkins has also been a Den Leader, Cub Master, Treasurer and Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 173 and is most proud of his role as Father to 3 fine young men.

In 2018, Mr. Hawkins was recognized by WNY STEM Hub with a Teacher Leader Award for his work as Lead Teacher of the Hand in Hand Program (2017-2019). In that role, he has instructed 150 youth in technical skills, including computer assisted design and 3D printing, More importantly, he has helped to inspire youth with skills in student leadership, service learning, disability awareness. Mr. Hawkins is a firm believer that kids learn best when working on real projects, especially those that help others.
