Denea Czapala

Sweet Home Central School Mathematics

Denea Czapla earned her B.A. in mathematics from SUNY Geneseo, and M.S.Ed. in Mathematics Education from Buffalo State. Ms. Czapla is currently employed at Sweet Home Middle School as a teacher of 8th grade math and algebra. Previous to this, she taught at Oakfield-Alabama Middle/High School for eight years. Her primary focus is teaching math in ways that encourage active student engagement and deep conceptual understanding. Her personal philosophy of learning is inspired by a quote by Albert Einstein, “The important thing is to never stop questioning.” In addition to teaching math in her district, Ms. Czapla is a part of her school's character education faculty committee. She is a member of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of NYS and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and enjoys attending and presenting at professional development conferences around the state. Miss Czapla is excited to be a part of the NYS Master Teacher Program for the wealth of professional development opportunities and the ability to share best practices with other middle school math teachers. She is looking forward to participating in workshops that investigate the vertical development of mathematical concepts and those that explore mathematical pedagogy. Miss Czapla is also excited about the opportunities to work with pre-service and new in-service teachers.
