Chris Johnson graduated from Alfred University in 1997 with a B.A. in Geology. During his time at Alfred, Chris participated in authentic field geology experiences in South Dakota and Wyoming. Following graduation, Chris spent 9 years teaching in the West Irondequoit Central School District in Rochester. While in Rochester, Chris also earned his Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Alfred. In 2007, he relocated to Bemus Point where he currently teaches at Maple Grove Jr./Sr. High School in the Bemus Point Central School District. As of June 2021, Chris has completed 23 years of teaching. In addition to teaching Earth Science, Environmental Science and AP Environmental Science, Chris has coached various Science Olympiad teams, is also the advisor/coach for the Maple Grove Envirothon team and has had students actively participate in the Youth Climate Summit at Buffalo State. Outside of the classroom, Chris enjoys hiking and kayaking in the Adirondacks and traveling with his family. He is excited to be a part of the Master Teacher Program and looks forward to exploring topics in the world of science such as GIS mapping and environmental stewardship in an effort to enhance his students' understanding of our world.
