Christopher Betrus
Orchard Park High School ScienceChris Betrus earned his BS in Biology from SUNY Fredonia, a BS in Science, Math, and Technology from SUNY Empire State College, and his MS in Zoology and MAT in Life Science Education from Miami University. Mr. Betrus has been in the classroom for since 2006 and currently teaches Regents Biology and Advanced Biology at Orchard Park High School. As an active member of the school community, he serves as the advisor STEM club and Medical Career Club, is a member of the Building Effectiveness Team, and is a building representative in the Orchard Park Teachers’ Association. He can often be found at high school social and athletic events where he acts as a teacher chaperone. Mr. Betrus is also active outside the school setting, coaching teams for the Orchard Park Youth Basketball Association, volunteering as a marathon pacer, and helping maintain local hiking trails. As a trail and ultramarathon runner, he can often be found outdoors clocking the miles while also sharing experiences and supporting others involved in the sport. Mr. Betrus hopes to use his experience in the NYS Master Teacher Program to increase his knowledge of the New York State Science Learning Standards. He is also looking forward to helping his school community as they transition to the exciting changes brought on by these new teaching and learning strategies.
