Alison Camp
William Street School ElementaryAlison Camp earned her BA in Minority Studies and Poverty Issues from Gettysburg College, after time with non-profits, she earned her MSeD from Medaille College. Mrs. Camp has been teaching at William Street School in Lancaster since 2007. Recently she was chosen to create a math course to provide additional math classes to students “in the middle” who normally do not qualify for extra math opportunities. In Mrs. Camp’s modern classroom students are challenged each day to take on challenges, ask questions, work together and explore how what they are learning from textbooks connects to the world around them. She believes in the power of teaching students about Growth Mindset, teaching neuroscience to help change students' views of their math abilities. Mrs. Camp serves as the Vice Chair for the Western New York Teachers’ Center and is an active member of the Association of NYS Math Teachers where she has been a presenter at their annual conference for the past two years. She is an Executive Board member of the Lancaster’s Teachers Union and has also led collegial inquiry groups focusing on Growth Mindset, Flipped Classroom, and Mathematical Mindset. In her tenure at William Streat Mrs. Camp has started Odyssey of the Mind as well as a Girls in STEM after school club. Mrs. Camp is an amateur photographer, a member of the Oishei Children’s Hospital’s Parent Advisory Council and working toward her black belt in Karate. Mrs. Camp is excited to explore new ways to engage students in STEM.
